Honouring the past. Celebrating the present. Embracing the future.
There’s me thinking it was another ordinary day in the life of lockdown. But early this morning, I found out that I’ve been shortlisted for the Blac Awards! At first I didn’t know what it meant because I was half asleep : ) Then I visited the Blac Awards website and felt really honoured to be shortlisted for the ‘Outstanding Young Person’ award.
This will be my first award nomination as a young author, and as a young African Caribbean male I feel like I will be representing most young people! Since I published my book in 2018, I’ve had messages from pupils in schools I’ve visited and readers of my book Shifted Code sharing how inspired they are to start writing too.
Being nominated for the Blac Awards makes me realise that our community is full of promising young creative minds, that with help, can be portrayed into the media to show the more positive sides of our community instead of a misconception. In addition to this, it will be perfect to be surrounding myself with other young people that share ambitions like mine.
